BBQ Jackfruit Burgers (or Lettuce Wraps)!

I’m sharing my healthy, easy, go-to recipe for my popular BBQ Jackfruit Burgers. You can also make them into Lettuce Wraps to avoid the bread!

If you are Vegetarian, Vegan or just wanting to try a new delish Vegetarian recipe, try this one! When I was switching from a meat-eater to Vegetarian I was always looking for new recipes. The great things about these BBQ Jackfruit Burgers are that the texture is very similar to pulled pork (if you like meat), these are completely vegetarian (if you don’t like meat lol), you’re actually eating a fruit so it’s super healthy, and you can add your own twist on these — simple or gourmet, these taste just delicious!

Here’s what you’ll need:

• Canned Jackfruit in Brine
• Stubb’s Original BBQ Sauce
• Red Onion
• Cilantro
• Whole Wheat Burger Buns (or whichever kind you prefer)
• Olive Oil
• A frying pan
*** I base how many cans of Jackfruit I get off of how many I’m serving and how much sauce I use off of my liking. Note: 1 can makes about 4 burgers and I use about half the bottle of BBQ sauce for 1 can. I will adjust the amount of sauce if I want it spicier or less spicy as Stubb’s Original BBQ sauce does have a little kick to it 😉

Cooking Instructions:

• Carefully open can of Jackfruit and drain liquid from can. Wash hands and start tearing “meaty” part of Jackfruit off and into a dish to cook later. (Canned Jackfruit will usually come cut in triangles. Avoid using the hard corners of the triangles and the seed and seed shells). Do this with entire can of Jackfruit.
• Heat oil in frying pan on low-medium and then added the “meaty” part of the Jackfruit that you tore off into the pan. Cook until slightly darker (golden-ish; about 5-7 minutes). Stir occasionally.
• Add your desired amount off bbq sauce (I suggest at least half the bottle so that the Jackfruit can really absorb the taste). Stir and distribute sauce evenly. Cook for about 10-15 minutes.
• Taste test — taste a small piece. If it tastes kind of like a pineapple it’s not ready! Allow more time to cook and for the Jackfruit to absorb the sauce. Try cooking for about 5-7 more minutes.
• When Jackfruit is done cooking, scoop onto one half of burger bun. Spread some of the bbq sauce on the other half of the burger bun.
• Add sliced sweet onions in your burger, pour a bit of the bbq sauce on top, and garnish with rinsed and chopped cilantro!
*** Feel free to add whatever else you’d like! Sometimes I squeeze lemon, add tomatoes and pickles… yum! Serve with your favorite chips and Bon Appétit!

Hopefully you love it as much as my friends and family do!
